#GlobalNews #Greece #COVID “I feel really alive,” says tourist as Greece officially opens to travellers

Tourists filled airports, sea ports and highways in Greece on Saturday as the country officially kicked off its tourism season in the hopes of reviving an economy battered by the coronavirus pandemic. "I'm very happy to be here," said German tourist Claudia Schutz Daniel after arriving at the airport with a group of tourists on the island of Corfu. The streets of Athens' Plaka tourist district were once again full of visitors browsing souvenirs and stalls. "I feel really alive and good, because it has been such a hard and long year because of COVID," said tourist Victoria Sanchez from the Czech Republic. Cars leaving the capital piled up at toll stations, while travellers queued to board island ferries as authorities eased several COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in time for the tourism opening, allowing travel between provinces, re-opening museums, beaches, bars and restaurants, and extending night curfews. Tourists will have to show a negative COVID-19 test

#GlobalNews Israeli airstrikes in Gaza destroys highrise building housing media offices, residents

An Israeli airstrike destroyed a highrise building in Gaza City that housed offices of The Associated Press and other media outlets hours after another Israeli air raid on a densely populated refugee camp killed at least 10 Palestinians from an extended family, mostly children, on Saturday.

The strike on the highrise came nearly an hour after the military ordered people to evacuate the 12-storey building, which included the offices of Al-Jazeera, and residential apartments. The strike brought down the entire structure, which collapsed in a cloud of dust. There was no immediate explanation for why it was attacked.

A Palestinian journalist was wounded in the strike, Palestinian media reported, and debris and shrapnel flew dozens of yards away.

The latest outburst of violence started in Jerusalem and spread across the region over the past week, with Jewish-Arab clashes and rioting in mixed cities of Israel. There were also widespread Palestinian protests Friday in the occupied West Bank, where Israeli forces shot and killed 11 people.
